Biography
Dr. Fiona M.K. James is Professor of Veterinary Neurology in the Department of Clinical Studies at the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph, where she also serves as Graduate Program Coordinator. She is a board-certified veterinary neurologist whose research program uses canine epilepsy as a naturally occurring model to investigate the neurobiology of epilepsy through objective electroclinical phenotyping and electroencephalography (EEG).
Her work has advanced ambulatory EEG, canine electroencephalographic methodology, and the objective electroclinical characterization of epilepsy in dogs. Current research focuses on objective biomarkers of treatment response and drug resistance, neuromodulation, and syndrome-specific epilepsy. Her Comparative Epilepsy Program integrates veterinary medicine, neuroscience, engineering, and quantitative electrophysiology to improve the diagnosis and monitoring of epilepsy while advancing fundamental understanding of epileptic brain networks in a comparative and One Health context. She is committed to training the next generation of clinician-scientists through graduate education, clinical research, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
